Experience

After three years in Sydney as a Banking and Finance Lawyer with Deacons (now Norton Rose Australia) working for major clients including banks and other lenders Thiagus returned to Darwin to join Ward Keller.

Thiagus has both private and public sector experience including over 20 years experience in commercial law, regulatory compliance, retail and operational banking, tax (Commonwealth and Northern Territory) accounting and business analysis. Thiagus was the Manager - Assurance and Legal for 7 years for a financial institution.

Thiagus has held various senior commercial accounting and analyst positions including Senior Accountant in Price Waterhouse as well as the position of Principal Compliance Office and periodically Acting Chief Investigations Officer in the Northern Territory Treasury Revenue Office.

Thiagus provides advice on commercial loan documentation and preparations both acting for lenders and borrowers, banking operations' related aspects of various legislation including the National Credit Code and contractual Codes of Conduct, other commercial transactions eg commercial agreements/contracts including purchase or sale of businesses or shares in businesses, building contracts, franchise agreements, shareholders agreements including funded and unfunded buy/sell agreements, land transactions, leases, licences, taxation issues, unit trust and discretionary trust deed preparation and issues, unit titles body corporate issues etc. Thiagus also advises in respect of asset protection, business succession, wills and estate planning.
