Jemima Fernandes

Law Clerk, Darwin

Jemima Fernandes’s family always said she’d make a great lawyer because she was good at arguing with her sister. She joined Ward Keller as a Law Clerk in September 2020 during her first year studying law at CDU.

‘It’s really great here’, said Jemima. ‘The role has given me a lot of opportunities to learn new things and get valuable hands-on experience.

‘Everyone at Ward Keller has been so welcoming and helpful, explaining things and giving me advice. It’s a great place to work.’

Jemima started her clerkship in the firm’s litigation cell. ‘I didn’t realise how many matters related to litigation’, she said. ‘I’ve had a look at so many things so far, from licensing to workers compensation. It’s really interesting.’

Jemima’s family moved to Darwin from India when she was 10. Outside work and uni, Jemima is also a singer and an avid musician. She also volunteers for Vinnies, is an active member of the CDU Law Students’ Society and the City of Darwin Youth Advisory Committee, and loves to cook.
