Katy James joined Ward Keller’s Darwin office in July 2022. She graduated from Charles Darwin University with her law degree in November 2021 and was admitted to practise in May 2022.

Katy studied externally with CDU from South Australia, where she’d worked as a paralegal for 18 months. Before that, she had a brief stint in Tasmania working as a legal assistant.

‘I moved up to Darwin to chase some new opportunities and get started on my legal career,’ said Katy, who is enjoying her new workplace. ‘Everyone here is really helpful, and there are lots of opportunities to grow and learn new things, which I love.’

Katy started in the firm’s commercial law cell, where she’s mainly working on general commercial matters and conveyancing. Her goal is to move into criminal and family law eventually. ‘That’s one thing that was enticing about Ward Keller – the chance to move around and try new areas of law.’

Katy said she loves Darwin’s laid-back lifestyle and the dry season weather she arrived to. When she’s not at work, she loves to travel, spending time with her two dogs, and visiting family and friends.
