Legal Receptionist/Administrative Clerk and Settlements Clerk – Alice Springs

Ward Keller is looking for a versatile legal receptionist/administrative clerk and settlements clerk to assist our Alice Springs legal team.

The successful settlements clerk candidate, will have:

  • Some Northern Territory property transaction experience with respect to booking settlements and preparing settlement documentation
  • Liaising with internal and external clients
  • Attending settlements at the Land Titles Office
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills
  • A good communication skill set, particularly telephone and interpersonal skills
  • Fast and accurate typing skills with excellent spelling and grammar
  • Attention to detail and ability to work under pressure
  • A proven ability to prioritise in order to meet deadlines
  • A positive team mentality.

Your duties will also include:

  • Monthly billing
  • Preparation of daily follow-ups and task lists
  • File maintenance
  • Diary management/scheduling settlements.

On the job training will be provided with this role.

As a receptionist, you will be required to

  • Welcome clients and visitors
  • Answer and forward calls in a professional manner
  • Handle enquiries
  • Schedule and confirm appointments
  • Direct the flow of mail and deliveries to the intended recipients
  • Observe and maintain our obligations in accordance with our safety plan
  • Order and replenish office supplies
  • Manage the maintenance and repair of office equipment
  • Assist with copying, scanning, faxing and emailing tasks
  • Work as a team and provide support and back up to the paralegal
  • Preparing meeting facilities and arranging refreshments, where necessary.

Candidates for both positions should exhibit excellent word processing, written and verbal communication skills and competency; observe business etiquette and maintain a professional appearance.

The ideal candidate would have some knowledge of:

  • Mining and petroleum law in the Territory or other Australian jurisdiction
  • Advising on mining and petroleum issues
  • Working with the Native Title Act 1993 (Cth), the Aboriginal Land Rights (Northern Territory) Act 1976 (Cth) and the Northern Territory Aboriginal Sacred Sites Act (NT).

Commercial, default and possessions and estates litigation

The ideal candidate would have at least 5 years’ post admission experience and practical experience in:

  • Default and possessions work
  • Contested estates
  • Trusts and estate planning
  • Sound property and commercial law experience.

General commercial lawyer

The ideal candidate would have at least 2 years’ post admission experience and experience in commercial transactions including property, leasing, development, share and unit sales and business sales.

All candidates must:

  • Have the ability to work as part of a team and achieve benchmarks and targets.
  • Have strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Have strong analytical skills.
  • Have experience in representing corporate and non-corporate clients.
  • Have excellent English language skills.
  • Be disciplined in personal management practices, have a strong sense of initiative, excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be able to interact with a wide range of clients.

Ideally the candidate would have a strong relationship with the Territory or be serious about a commitment to the Territory.
