Michael Penman joined Ward Keller’s Alice Springs team in November 2019 after a total of nine years practising in private practice then with the Aboriginal Legal Service and the NT Director of Public Prosecutions.
Originally from Tamworth, Michael and his wife moved to Alice Springs in 2015. ‘We’ve enjoyed the country life and getting to know everyone’, he said. ‘It’s is a great place to live and work.’
Michael mainly practises in crime. He also works on family law and civil matters.
‘I started off doing civil work when I first graduated, then the lure of the courtroom took me into crime for a bit, where I enjoyed building up my resilience in the courtroom’, he said.
Michael said Ward Keller has been an excellent workplace so far. ‘There’s a terrific culture here with a very understanding work environment’, he said. ‘I can see why the firm has been around for so long—they retain their staff well. They haven’t given me too much of a hard time yet, so I’m hanging in there!’
When he’s not at work, Michael is a sports fanatic. ‘I love my golf and cricket’, he said. ‘I got lured into coaching my wife’s netball team last year, so I’m acquiring a love of netball too.’ The team made the grand final last year, so he must be doing something right.
